  The Council on American-Islamic Relations and the ACLU have called for independent inquiries into the shooting. The council said in a letter to the Department of Justice, which oversees the FBI and is participating in the internal inquiry, that FBI agents had approached Todashev in an aggressive manner. In one instance, the council said, six law enforcement agents drew their guns and pushed Todashev to the ground.

  The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) said Tuesday it is suing the National Security Agency to try to stop it from collecting and storing Americans' phone records. Eighteen privacy and civil liberties groups have joined together to file the suit.

    CAIR is joining other advocacy groups in a lawsuit against the NSA's warrantless surveillance program that collects, stores, searches, and analyzes the phone records of millions of innocent Americans.

    The protest, which will start at 4 p.m. at the Old State House, is being organized by the American Civil Liberties Union of Connecticut, the Connecticut chapter of the Council on American Islamic Relations and the Connecticut Coalition to Stop Indefinite Detention.

  The University of California's governing board plans to vote Wednesday on a new student member who would be the first practicing Muslim to hold the post and whose nomination is being vigorously opposed by some Jewish groups. However, Zahra Billoo, executive director of CAIR-SFBA, told NBC Bay Area that critics have attacked the young student activist for being "divisive," but in all the vetting of her, most have found her to be a "bridge-builder."
