The legislation is similar to an unsuccessful 2011 proposal that Gay also sponsored that would have prevented courts from considering international law or Sharia law. This new legislation does not specifically name Sharia, or Islamic, law, which is based on the teaching of the Quran and is used in some Muslim countries.
