CAIR Action Alert:
Your Vote is Your Power
Muslim voters in swing states to receive call from comedian Dean Obeidallah
(WASHINGTON, D.C., 11/5/12) - The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) -- the nation's largest Muslim and Arab-American civil rights organizations -- are mobilizing voters through a get-out-the-vote (GOTV) campaign that includes a national call tonight recorded by comedian and CNN contributor Dean Obeidallah.
Tonight’s call urges Muslim and Arab-American voters to go to the polls tomorrow and will be heard by tens of thousands of voters living in swing states like Florida, Virginia, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.
"The stakes in this election are very high, so we urge American Muslims and Arab-Americans to vote for those candidates, regardless of political party, who best reflect their views on important issues such as the economy, jobs, civil liberties, and foreign policy," said CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad.
ACTION REQUESTED:
  1. Go to the polls on Tuesday, November 6, and vote for the candidates of your choice. To find your polling place, click here.
  2. Remind and encourage your friends and family members to vote.
  3. Use social media to encourage all eligible voters to go to the polls.
  4. Offer to help friends, co-workers and family members get to the polls.
  5. Community leaders should use their communications networks to encourage congregations to vote.
  6. Convince one person who did not plan to vote to go to the polls.
For more information on the CAIR/ADC GOTV campaign, contact CAIR Government Affairs Coordinator Robert McCaw at 202-742-6448 or rmccaw@cair.com.
CAIR is distributing copies of its state-specific voting guides designed to inform American Muslim voters about polling times and locations, how to cast an absentee ballot and about voter rights in each state.
The Washington-based civil rights organization has also released a presidential voter guide to ensure that Muslims are knowledgeable about the candidates and their positions on a variety of issues.
Other GOTV efforts include phone banks like those conducted Saturday and Sunday in Washington, D.C., and Northern Virginia to encouraging nearly 2,000 registered Arab-Americans and Muslims to vote.
[NOTE: All the CAIR/ADC GOTV initiatives are non-partisan and do not favor one candidate, party or affiliation over another. CAIR has partnered with ADC as part of its efforts to empower minority voters. CAIR is encouraging supporters to join ADC's Voter Protection Unit.]
CAIR recently called on Muslim religious and community leaders nationwide to use the prayers marking the Eid Al-Adha holiday at the end of the pilgrimage to Mecca to urge every eligible Muslim voter to go to the polls on November 6 and vote for the candidate of their choice.
CAIR also released a poll of registered Muslim voters. The poll, conducted by an independent research firm, indicates that 91 percent of registered Muslim voters plan to go to the polls Tuesday.
As part of its non-partisan election activities, CAIR has distributed "MVP - Muslim Voter Power" get-out-the-vote posters and lawn signs to mosques and other Islamic institutions nationwide. CAIR has also acquired a national list of registered Muslims voters and its chapters around the nation are currently conducting non-partisan efforts to turn out those voters tomorrow.
CAIR has provided the community with voter guides that offer information on presidential candidates as well as data on times polls are open and what to take to the polls.
