CAIR Objects to Brennan CIA Nomination
Muslim civil rights group troubled by nominee's support for drone program, torture
(WASHINGTON, D.C., 1/8/13) -- The nation's largest Muslim civil rights organization today expressed concern about President Obama's nomination of John Brennan to become the next director of the CIA.
The Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) said it is troubled by Brennan's involvement with America's worldwide campaign of targeted killings using drones, his past support for interrogation techniques that have been termed "torture" by human rights groups and for extraordinary rendition -- the Bush administration practice of abducting terror suspects and sending them to other countries to be tortured.
